POLAND JOURNEY

From the 3rd to the 9th of June the people in my YEA! Project classmates lived one of the best experiences of our life: travelling to Radom, in Poland. In this blog I will summarize how our journey went: what we did, where did we go, and other stuff I find important about our travel. Hope you find it interesting :) Here we go!

Flying to Poland ✈️ (the 3rd of June)

On June the 3rd, we took a plane which took us to Poland (Polska, writen in Polish). In order to get to the airport in time we had to get up extra early, which lead to a bunch of sleepy students on a bus (our teachers were delighted until we started to wake up).

Here we are, a few hours before getting our plane

The flying was quite comfortable. We travelled with Lot Airlines, which is a Polish company, and they were super nice -they even gave us some chocolate! Besides, the views were amazing...

When we finally arrived to Poland it was really late because our flight had been delayed. German people arrived earlier than us, so we were a lot more nervous than we were before taking the plane. In the bus that took us from the airport to Radom, we talked a lot to distract ourselves, even though it was really late at night and we wanted to sleep.

But we finally arrived to Radom. Our host families were wating for us and we had to go to their homes, so we said goodbye to each other and we got in their cars.

I recognaise that at first I was quite nervous about meeting my host family. I hadn't gone in an exchange before, so it was quite challenging for me. But my partner (Julka <3) is the nicest girl I've ever met, so I quickly adapted. Julka and her family were super kind to me and made me feel like I was in my own home. I also met Nadja, who was from the German team and stayed in Julka's house as well. She is really cute and her eyebrows are absolutely goals!

After meeting them, unpacking my stuff and taking a shower, I was so tired that I couldn't even stand on my own feet. I made sure to get enough sleep so I could be all ready for the next day -but I was super excited and didn't rest at all!

First day in Radom! (4th of June)

That monday morning we went to the high school for the first time. I LOVED IT!!! All the teachers seemed really nice and the students were super kind to us. We met lot of Polish people who wanted to talk with us during break time, and I kind of miss it to be the great attraction there JAJAJA.

After school we went for a walk in an old village near the town and I took some cute pictures :D also the Polish Team explained to us some history of Radom. We learnt a lot!

This is the structure of a typical Polish cabin

Later at night, the Polish team took us to a Quevo concert. Quevo is a Polish rapper everyone likes there; we really enjoyed all of his songs, Tamagotchi the most!

Lots of people, but also lots of fun :)

That was our first day in Poland. The next day we woke up completely hoarse, but it was worth it. What did we do on our second day? Let's see...

VISITING RADOM (5th of June)

The third day in Poland was also really tiring. We spent all the morning working on our projects (we had to make a calendar).

We had to make the November sheet
This guys were meant to be next to the drawn eyes

Nadja, Julka & I working on the calendar sheets

During the afternoon we went on a school trip to see different parts of Radom. We went to the local theater, which was really cool (we sang the Macarena and everyone was kinda shocked JAJAJ) .

Then we went to the town hall, where the mayor gave us the welcome to Radom. He gave us some presents, such as a notebook and a pen.

In the afternoon, we said goodbye to our teachers and went to a huge park in the town. Something I have realised in my journey is that Polish cities are way too big. This doesn't mean they have more buildings or people than other cities around the world, but the buildings are more separated from each other than in other countries, which gives that impression.

So, we had some great talks with the German & Polish teams in the park. I think we really got to know each other there so it was cool! I also spent some time with the Spanish team and after that we went back to our host houses and had some sleep :).

GOING TO WARSZAWA 🌇 (6TH OF JUNE)

One of the things I was more excited about was to go to Warsaw (or Warszwa in Polish), the capital of Poland. We had to get up really early so we could have time to see a lot of things. We went to the famous Opera Hall. The Wielki Theatre, in Warsaw is home to three companies: the Polish National Opera, the Polish National Ballet, and a theatrical company.

I think the Opera was one of the things I liked the most in Poland. I found it really interesting to see how dancers get ready to perform and other stuff; I wish I could come back or see a live performance there.

This "Ballet" logo was made of ballet slippers!

The German & Spanish teams took a photo in the stairs -look how cute we are 💗

After visiting the Opera Hall, we went for a walk in the centre of Walsaw. We saw really cool buildings, and a lot of cool graffities on them, such as this one I loved:

(Thanks unknown person!)

Then we got some snacks with three girls of the Polish Team. We wanted to try pierogies soo bad. They are filled dumplings and also quite expensive where we had them...

Pierogies are sooo delicious!!!

We also went to the shop mall, but we didn't stay long because we were exhausted JAJAJA. After a long day in Warsaw, we just went to our host houses to have dinner there and slept well.

Me and a friend having a great time in Warsaw!

PARTY!! (7TH OF JUNE)

On Thursday our calendars were finally done, so we started rehearsing our Romeo and Juliet performance. I was one of the Juliets and I had a lot of fun learning my lines and being with the other actors! We were going to perform on Friday so we made sure to leave it all ready for the next day.

After school the Polish team took us to a bowling alley! Soo cool. I realised I was worse at bowling than I thought I was JAJA.

        Spanish team & Filip

As the end of our trip approached, we started being sad because we didn't want it to end. The Polish team knew it, so in the evening they threw a party.

The party was set in the hotel's garden of someone's father. It was really beautiful. We didn't stop dancing to different famous songs from Poland, Spain and Germany, and had incredibly tasty typical food (special mention to pierogies -one of the Polish things I miss the most). I met really cool people and we tried to enjoy the night as we didn't have much time left in Poland.

                                                                              Celeste from the German team
                                                                                            Julka!!
                                                                                Maciek from the Polish team
                                                                                                Loooove
                                                                Best day ever!

LAST DAY :( (8TH OF JUNE)

On Friday morning, we finally performed Romeo & Juliet. Our "stage" were the stairs of the school hall, so everyone that passed by could see us. I was really nervous at first, but as I saw the other Juliets performing I calmed down a little. In the end, we did well.

On the afternoon, the Polish team had to do something related to their school, so we just waited for them talking and stuff. When they finished, we took a bus to go to a school trip. It was meant to be a party, but teachers didn't want to let us alone... They explained to us really interesting things about the World War in Poland and they gave us the food poor people used to have in those dark times (not the best thing I've tried in Poland, to be honest).

That day was so emotive and funny that I totally forgot to take photos. I didn't have time to worry about getting my phone out, so I guess it was the most intense day for me. We ended up in a bus, really late at night, talking and playing games with the Polish & German team.  They are really nice :')

We arrived to our host houses quite late and we still had to pack everything for the next day's trip, so we didn't sleep that much... I was really sad about leaving Poland so I preferred taking advantage of that last night and talk with Julka over sleeping JAJAJA. Next morning I was tired but it didn't care at all.

FLYING TO SPAIN 💔 (9TH OF JUNE)

We had to wake up early (again) but some of us didn't even sleep so it was fine. The German
team left later than us so we said goodbye to then before going to get the bus. My partner Julka
lived far away from the city, so we had to be in the car extra-early. Finally, the bus arrived and we
burst into tears :(

Our last hug

Going to the airport, some of my classmates couldn't stop crying. I didn't really cry that much in the bus because I hadn't realised yet that our amazing journey was over. In the airport, we played card games and talked about Poland; our host families, people from the other teams, the food... everything we were going to miss. I did think about what I was going to miss the most and I found myself not wanting to go back to Spain.

I miss Julka and the other teams

I miss the beautiful landscapes

I miss spending time with my Spanish classmates

I miss travelling in the bus late at night surrounded by my new friends

When we were finally in Spain, after a short nap that cleared my mind up, we took a bus in order to get to our city. We were really sad that our big adventure was over but really happy that we did it.

This experience has been amazing to me. It was a big challenge: I was scared of not getting on well with my host family, not being understood when speaking in English, not liking the food... (and yes, I also miss the food so much). I have LOVED to be a part of this project and I would love to travel again with it -I can't wait to see the German & Polish teams again in Germany!

To sum up, and using a picture I took of a graffitie I saw in Warsaw...

THANKS FOR READING!!!

P.S.: when we finally landed in Spain, my left leg hurt so much. Apparenty, a mosquito or something like that had bit me and it was all swollen... before even going to my house I had to go to the hospital JAJJA. Conclusion: never trust Polish bugs 😂 .
